"Learning to love and believe in myself was one of the hardest things I think I have ever had to do".... a life lesson that helps our trainer Gemma truly believe in, and help others achieve their goals. Read on to see what motivates and inspires Gemma.
What is your favourite workout? Well of course it involves running! I really love going for a long steady run, then coming back and doing a little strength set. I am a sucker for a good Ab or Glute set. I also love the feeling I get (after) from an intense interval session on the track, there is nothing like the high you get knowing you have gone all out and are now done for the day!
Share with us the tastiest meal or snack you have eaten this week? Post our Momentum Vietnam trip, I am loving Rice Paper Rolls (you can put pretty much whatever you want in them, the flavours are amazing).
What is your favourite song, or playlist, to sweat to? I am a little bit of an 80’s chick at heart, but I know this is not ‘cool’ so I use my kids to help keep me up to date. At 10 & 8 they know way more about the current music scene than I do. I also use Apple Music a lot to listen to tunes and add them to my playlist when I come across one that I like. More often than not, I listen to a song thinking about whether its motivating enough for a bootcamp or spinning session!
What does your weekly workout schedule look like? It changes all the time depending on what I am training for, currently it looks like this:
Monday: Long Run, Tuesday: Yoga or Boxing, Wednesday: Bootcamp, Thursday: Strong & Lean + Spinning, Friday : RunCamp, Saturday:Rest, Sunday: Run or Rest.
Are you a Morning Lark or a Night Owl? Definitely a Morning Lark. Its embarassing how early I go to bed some nights!
Who inspires you? I can find something in every single person that I find inspiring, people fascinate me. But if I were to get more specific, then from a fitness point of view, I have a secret girl crush on Alexia Clarke, but don’t tell anyone.
What is the hardest thing you have ever done? Growing up I was picked on as a kid and it really knocked my self confidence, learning to love and believe in myself was one of the hardest things I think I have had to do. That and being a Mum, as I think you never quite feel you are doing a good enough job, however its also the best thing I have ever done too!
Name 3 things on your ‘bucket list’
- Tandem Sky Dive on my 40th Birthday
- Sub 1:30 on a half marathon
- Visit Hawaii
What superpower do you wish you could have? So this is a game I always play with my kids and I can never decide between mind reading, invisibility & time travel!
What is the best thing about being a Trainer? Without a doubt it is knowing that you played a part in helping people achieve their goals. I also love the connection I make with clients, many of whom I am proud to now call friends.
‘To Plan’? or ‘Go with the Flow’? I am such a planner, I am lost without a plan and a checklist.
Tell us one thing that we did not know about you? I am scared of large boats and being in open water. Its ironic as when I first came to Singapore I worked for a large shipping company. Within my first month I had to visit an oil tanker, and climb up the side of it in whilst it was in open water. Petrified is not the word! Its also why I challenge myself with triathlons to help me overcome my fears.
