After a 4 month break last year, due to an illness I returned back to Momentum more committed than ever.

My main focus and motivation this year has been to get my fitness back and prepare for a 21 KM competitive run in December.  I attend between 4-5 classes each week now.

Momentum is helping me achieve this goal as they offer a variety of classes at different times. They offer early morning and evening classes. I like to work out first thing in the morning then I have the rest of the day free to focus on work and kids!

I love the variety of classes that you can attend.  The run club has been my favourite this year and the recent Strong and Lean really helps me focus on my strength.  The bootcamps, boxing and yoga are all great classes and I always come away feeling I've had a great workout, always very sweaty!

The locations Momentum choose are also another factor into why I keep coming back.  They always pick convenient locations which are easily accessible even without a car.  Always beautiful locations too, MBS for a run, Botanical gardens for Bootcamp and yoga.  Working out isn’t as hard with great views!

The trainers are also what makes me return each week to Momentum.  They are very supportive and encouraging.  They are all enthusiastic at what they do and are great adapting exercises and runs to suit all levels so everyone can join in.

I started Momentum Bootcamps 9 months ago. At the time I was using Guava Pass so I could try different studies and gyms so I could find what works best for me. I needed to be challenged to actually loose the weight that I gained from living in Singapore for 3 1/2 years.  I attended Casee's class first and she did sprint drills that evening and I practically cried the first session. This challenge is what drove me to come back again and again because I wanted to get fitter and wanted to be healthier.

IMG_7725.JPG

I am a preschool teacher, the hours are high with me working at least 10 hours a day and sometimes more than that. Momentum's schedule with 6.15am & 7.00am classes worked perfectly as I can always sneeze this into my schedule. The fact that I have to rush off to work after (and shower at work) does't bother me as I am happy to do this just so I can fit a session into my day.  I feel so satisfied and accomplished after a workout.

My motivation initially was to loose weigh but now it's just so much more. Today I feel so much more accomplished, happier and healthier. I can see the results in my body and am so much more confident in the way I look. I used to get sick at least once every week it was such a horrible time. I have never been caught with the flu since I started Momentum, not even a cough

I love variety in my workouts and include  HIIT, Yoga, Bootcamp and Boxing.  Momentum challenges me everyday that makes me want to come back for more. ( Doing one push up was even impossible for me before. )  The different styles of the sessions never leave me bored and I always want to come back and love to challenge myself physically and so do the trainers(haha).

IMG_5091.jpg

I personally appreciate every single trainer who helped me especially when i had my knee injury. You all had so much understanding and patience. There was a moment I was so shy and ashamed cause I didnt want the trainers to modify anything only for me because it was a group class. I couldn't even run because my knee would hurt really bad. Even until now I cant run for long. But you are all so patient and understanding and so much passion and i am so grateful for that. I could've stopped my fitness journey but I had already felt so comfortable and accustomed to everyone that it was already was like family and stopping wouldve made me so unhappy. So thank you momentum and everyone behind it.

It provides a structured and challenging environment that pushes me to maintain my discipline.

Over this year and a half, I have not only become so much stronger but the peace and calm that is a by-product of the exercise is as important to me as the physical workout. The ritual of exercise is as much physical as it is emotional.

These two prove that you can have it all, as they juggle family, fitness and successful careers. Over the past couple of years they have gone from strength to strength. Their commitment to their health and fitness is inspirational, they are no stranger to landing at Changi airport and heading to a class within the hour. Read more to hear what they have to say about their fitness journey. IMG_5958.JPG

What prompted you to join your first session?

Ayesha: A friend used to go to your classes and she encouraged me to try out a class - I went to the first class with great trepidation - thinking that I would just not be able to keep up or fit in with these ultra fit enthusiasts - was a bit scared truth be told!

Shailesh: My wife! She kept telling me what a great work out this was - and I decided to check it out...though I must say that I kept questioning my decision to join when working my way through the first couple of classes - but then I was hooked!

What keeps you coming back?

Ayesha: It's just such a great community - you see the same familiar faces - great camaraderie - and of course a full body workout that just keeps you going. I started out with just once a week and now I am up to 3 sessions a week time permitting - it is truly addictive.

Shailesh: The variety, the unpredictability of what's going to get thrown at you and the fact that it is a full body workout..and great trainers and familiar faces.

IMG_5973.JPG

What do you enjoy about the sessions?

Ayesha: The fact that I keep getting challenged and manage to keep rising to the increased intensity with every class!

Shailesh: Keep getting pushed by the fact that there are others around you - and the team work adds a healthy competitive edge - competing with yourself and against others...

Who motivates who to go to the sessions?

Ayesha: Used to be me - but now Shailesh has crossed the hurdle and we sign up together or on our own depending on our travel schedules. And honestly we are both so competitive (healthy competition! no  pun intended) that even if one of us is jet lagged, we absolutely drag ourselves to class if the other is going!

What does your weekly fitness routine as a couple, look like?

The 2-3 sessions a week we do as a couple and then another couple of days where we do our own thing......Shailesh plays tennis, I go cycling or we work out at our club...

What words of advice would you give to someone who is keen to try a session, but is a bit nervous for their first time?

Ayesha/Shailesh: Just go for it - it can be intimidating at first, but the team at Momentum is super professional and accommodate for different fitness levels. And quite honestly, once you have a few classes under your belt - you are hooked!

I remember starting to follow Ness on Facebook and then she announced starting bootcamp sessions with the first two weeks free as trial! They were at her condo which was close by and the timing worked out well with work (6:15am!) so I went and have never looked back!

I love everything about Momentum from the people, to trainers to workouts. Life would have its demands, but the consistency of Momentum Bootcamps and always being there has made it easy and great to be part of the tribe. 2016 was not a very good year for me and it was so great to know that the trainers and fellow bootcampers were always there to stand by you even though they might not even know how much it means to you or what battles you are fighting personally.  I have come to truly love my little tribe here in Singapore and don’t even want to think about ever moving away! Not sure how I would ever replace this community!

I have completed two BBM’s and found that the focus and mindfulness it creates is something I can use in my daily life on an ongoing basis - creating lifelong habits. I love the variety of classes and timings which enables me as a fulltime working mother of 2 to do 3 sessions a week - which is fantastic!

I will continue to always recommend Momentum Bootcamps to whomever asks and I always bring my guest that are visiting for a nice sweaty session! I remember complaining to Amanda C during one RunCamp session that it feels that I train so much, but yet it doesn’t get any easier. Amanda’s reply has stuck with me and I quote her often with my mates when we discuss their fitness journeys – “It never gets any easier, as the more you train the more you push yourself and you continue to get stronger and fitter”. Love it and so so true!

Momentum Bootcamps truly creates momentum in and out of exercise gear!"

It's such a positive experience. Couples who workout together, stay together…”FACT”! Susan & John consistently train together throughout the week.  Their consistency, determination and togetherness during classes is an inspiration to us all.  We could learn a thing or two about how to train with your spouse (and not fall out!)

"We have been attending Momentum Bootcamps regularly for about a year now. We both like to go. Fitness has always been important to us and it's fun working out as a couple and meeting others who share the same zest for fitness. We have got to know some of the other members and really like this friendly group.

Momentum is great for a lot of reasons. First and foremost, it's a great workout combining endurance, strength, stretching and core strengthening. We enjoy being outdoors in the beautiful Botanic Gardens. It's challenging, never boring, and we always look forward to what the Momentum team will challenge us with next.

Its such a positive experience.

I love Momentum - you make everyone feel happy, positive and capable. We may get grumpy when we have to do 150 burpees but we love you and we keep coming back!!

I started with signing up for the Body By Momentum Challenge last September and instantly felt at ease with the trainers, having felt unfit for a long time, you got me moving and enjoying exercise again! I find when I exercise I want to be healthier and eat better - so it's a good cycle to be in.

I've enjoyed it so much that I am now determined to make the classes part of my weekly routine. I book in a week in advance so I schedule everything else around the classes I have committed to. I now get a bit panicked if I go away and don't have my classes to go to!

The groups are lovely and small and you don't feel intimidated at all.

The trainers are so good and know when to push you further. I enjoy the encouragement from the whole group who aren't competing but who are genuinely happy for you if you look fitter, can run faster, can jump higher or whatever it might be.

I've made some really great friends and it's a wonderful community to be part of - thank you for building that!

I completed my first 10k run and based on my running app, i clocked in about 1hr 5min.

This was only possible because of the support and words of wisdom from my wonderful trainers and community, and i would like to thank you guys for helping me get to the finishing line. 🙌🏻 💪🏻

I was properly hydrated (the past few days), ate properly, didn't overtrain (as what was advised to me!), and just focused on enjoying the run as I would normally. I felt good running the entire 10k and wasn't super tired, I even felt like I could have gone further!

It feels really good to know that I have done what I initially thought was impossible.

So if i can do it, anyone can!
Thank you guys again!

xx Nic, a runner.

Anna's StoryVanessa BirchSun, 06 Nov 2016 12:28:27 +0000http://www.momentumbootcamps.com/testimonials/2016/11/6/annas-story53ecbea8e4b0626a9cfd5fe1:581f1fc8f5e231b25f945460:581f206ae6f2e1714ceaa9ee "I really owe so much to the Momentum trainers and community. It's such an integral part of who I am now!"   Hey Ness

I spent last weekend in Luang Prabang doing my first run - something I NEVER even considered possible before I began attending your Monday bootcamp class in the Botanic Gardens.

I tried that class primarily because of Tanya, a good friend who had recommended Momentum. However, in addition to strengthening my friendships at these sessions, I also grew as a person without even noticing.

Committing to that class pushed me out of my comfort zone, and after having realised that, I now find myself trying to push other pre-conceived obstacles.

When my friends signed up for the Luang Prabang run, I shrugged it off because I thought I would never be able to run. But they kept on telling me I could do it precisely because I could do bootcamp.

So I signed up, changed my original intent from running just 7km to 14km, and attempted some form of additional training. I am happy to share that for my first ever run, I clocked in 14km in 90 minutes.

I came in 46th (out of a total of 174 runners across three different distances - 7km, 14km, and 21km), 11th out of 82 women, and 5th in my age category!

I honestly could not have done this run without you.

I really owe so much to you, the Momentum trainers and community. It's such an integral part of who I am now, and I absolutely love knowing that there is a whole tribe that really has got every member's back!

Anna xx
