I want to introduce you to a woman who has certainly inspired Amanda and I as trainers, a woman who has also left a big impression on our Momentum Botanical Gardens team.
Very shortly after launching in September last year, Anke came for her free trial and I was 100% certain I would never see her again.
She was super friendly, enthusiastic and ready to get her fitness back on track but things didn’t go according to plan that day.
I’ll let Anke tell her side of the story….
I was born and raised in Germany - where I met my husband, trained as a physiotherapist and raised our gorgeous children Finn Ole (11 years) and Greta (8 years).
In 2008 we relocated to Jakarta and while we had a great time, I recognized that I really missed the outdoors lifestyle, playing sports or simply walking to a friends house.
In August 2014 we relocated again to Singapore and moved into a house close to the Botanical Gardens. I always loved to exercise in groups but after giving birth to my daughter, I lost track.
I saw a boot camp I liked and after seeing it the second time, I got in contact with Vanessa. She invited me to come for a free trial which ended in a complete disaster!
I had never combining cardio and strength training before (I’d usually stick to one or the other) so the combination really killed me. I couldn't keep up with the others and in the middle of the session, I almost collapsed.
I had to lie down, breathe through a paper bag and couldn't go any further. Ness and the ladies were kind and told me not to worry but I really felt bad and also angry with myself.
BUT I was also on fire and determined. I went back and signed up for a 20 session pack! I got better from session to session. At the start, I was very tired but after 2 months I felt more energetic and fitter than I’d ever been.
We returned to Germany over Christmas and I tried on a pair of pants that I’d always loved but they had become too small over the years (or perhaps I was the one getting bigger).
They fit perfectly (without having to suck my belly in) and I was proud of myself because I didn't realize how much my body had changed.
I see it now with more clothes and it feels great. My intention was never was to loose lots of weight, just to be stronger and fitter. But I can't help myself, I like the side effect of this type of training...smile emoticon
Vanessa and Amanda and all the other members of Momentum showed me how much you can achieve, if you stay focused and continue to believe in yourself.
For me, I was very lucky to find Momentum. Where training is hard but fun, where nobody is putting you down but inspiring you to give more – because everyone else is giving it their all. I encouraged a friend to come along and she feels exactly the same way.
I now come three times a week and I won't miss a session just because I feel so good afterwards.

While your intention to get into shape might start off a little rocky like Anke, you can always ante up again.
A strong mind creates a strong body.
Anke could have easily walked away from her trial saying ‘hell no, I’m never returning’ but look how much she would have missed out on if she had.
We encourage you to stay focused and committed to your goals and get that fire in your belly! You’ll love the results when you do.
