Why we love exercise (and you should too!)

I could seriously go on forever about this topic. For me, keeping fit has become a way of life. I see exercise as quintessential for our health and happiness and adopting a regular fitness routine helps us live healthier and happier lives. I don’t just keep fit because it’s part of my job, instead I have grown to love and enjoy it as it helps restore my mind, body and soul, and I love how it makes me feel. It re-energises me!

For many people, the idea of fitness is so foreign that exercise becomes more of a chore - something they continually create excuses for, avoid like a plague, or only do because they feel they have to. Comments such as “Oh but it’s only for athletes”, or “I don’t have time”, or “It’s just not my thing” are far too common. But how can you knock something when you haven’t really given it a go?

So why exercise?

Simple, because it’s so good for you. Looking and feeling fit and strong is so powerful and really helps build total body confidence. Here are my other favourite benefits:

·      It’s an instant mood booster (hello endorphins and happy hormones)

·      Your memory improves and your mind is sharper

·      It lowers your stress and anxiety levels

·      Improves your immune system

·      With added muscle, you burn more calories at rest and your bone density increases

·      Regular activity reduces your risk of diseases and a laundry list of health issues such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, certain types of cancers, depression to name a few.

Choose what works for you

Only you really know and understand your body. We’re all different and so are our interests. You don’t have to be an Insta-worthy fitness fanatic to enjoy exercise - there are no rules, and you don’t always have to be doing hard-hitting sweaty workouts - so if that’s not your thing, that’s ok.

There are so many different ways we can move our bodies and you should choose what works best for you. Whether you like your morning stroll along the coast, or fancy a cardio session, or even enjoy those deep stretches from Pilates – if it works for you, do it and you’ll feel more motivated to continue.
